Birthday cake smash photoshoot themes can be as imaginative as you like. I have done;
boho, Peter Pan, Peter Rabbit, Peaky Blinders, enchanted forest, pink fairies, vintage tea party and rainbows, as well as colour themes which match parent’s home decor.
I have even held outdoor birthday photoshoots in the gorgeous Nottinghamshire forests and meadows. A great option for Summer babies!
Of course birthday portrait photography is not limited to one year olds, I have had birthday photoshoots for clients of all ages from one to 40!

Today I have viewed my daughters cake smash session. Oh my word Debbie is a genius! So creative, the pictures are utterly beautiful!! I am so happy! YOUR QUESTIONS
Many of my clients book their babies in for their 1st Birthday photography session when baby reaches 8 months. This allows us plenty of time to schedule in the pre consultation to talk about colours, themes and ideas. It also allows me time to prepare any special items or order in bespoke products for the session, so we can create those beautiful sets my clients love for their babies! I only book a certain number of birthday photography sessions in a month, so early booking is always advised to ensure you have that special birthday date,
Birthdays are important events in a child’s life and as a parent it is wonderful to be able record and remember these special times in your child’s life. A Fairy Nuff Photography cake smash birthday session is divided into four sections, each designed to create beautiful images, whilst always taking into consideration your little ones comfort.
Full styling, outfits and set decor is included – this is something we discuss in detail during your complimentary pre consultation.
Section One: This section is all about timeless portraits of your child. You may choose to a simple set up and bring clothes of your choosing or you can select from my wardrobe of outfits, props and backdrops.
Section Two: Playtime! These section is all about your baby having fun with their favourite teddies or toys. You may choose to change outfits or you may prefer your baby to be ‘au natural’ and as naked as the day they were born! This section is where we really see your baby relax and all those beautiful smiles and expressions appear!
Section Three: The main event! We change the backdrop, set and outfit and get ready to smash the cake! Get ready for the best messy play ever! It is high energy and maximum fun and parents are fully encouraged to enjoy every moment with their baby! Singing, dancing, laughing and cake… and best of all… no tidying up for you after!
Section Four: After all that partying, cake and singing we are ready to calm things down with a relaxing bubble bath, complete with rubber duckies to splash with! Babies love splashing in the warm water, getting nice and clean before cosy cuddles in their favourite towel.
Baby’s safety is always our priority and for this reason we ask parents to bring the cake for the session, as babies may have allergies, intolerances or medical conditions that require specialist cakes. There are two local cake makers that we recommend that have worked with many of our clients, including babies with milk and egg allergies. We are always happy to work with cake makers to ensure the design and colours compliment your chosen set theme.

Decided you don’t want cake? No problem, what about fruit? Or maybe no food at all, but lots of fun playing with balloons? Blowing bubbles? Catching falling petals or leaves? We can discuss all the alternatives during our pre consultation.
Pre Session: A well rested and content child is ideal for this session. In our experience most babies are at their happiest in the morning, so our sessions are scheduled in the morning, taking into account nap times.
At the Session: Birthday and cake smash photography sessions usually last about an hour, however, timings can flex depending on your child. Here at Fairy Nuff Photography we treat each baby as an individual and are fully aware that some babies take a little longer to relax, whilst others love all the attention!
We ensure there are plenty of rest breaks and cuddle time, so that each child feels confident and relaxed for their session.
Each image taken during the session will be reviewed and compared so that only the very best images from each of the sections goes forward for editing, using professional grade equipment and software. Approximate timings for gallery completion is 3-4 weeks from the session (may extend during very busy periods).
Once your images have been edited and checked they will form your gallery. You will be invited back to Fairy Nuff Photography to view your photography session images, select those you wish to have as part of your photography package and also order any additional products and wall art. The ordering process is always done in person so you know your are viewing on a fully calibrated screen and I can guide you on your product choices and sizes. Payment for any package upgrades or products is also completed during the viewing and ordering appointment.
